A Little Meditation in the Morning

Psalm 46:10 “Be still and know that I am God.”

When we start school in the morning everyone gets in a comfortable spot while I connect the iPad to the TV so that it will work with Youtube.  I cue up about four praise and worship songs to play before I turn up the volume.  As the music plays I encourage my children to use that time to talk to God and listen to what He has to say to them.  I tell them to speak to Him about what is on their heart and to tell Him of things that they love.  They can also just listen to the music, sing, or watch the music videos.

These songs typically take about 20-30 minutes.  My youngest likes to snuggle up on my lap for most of that time.  While it is a refreshing time for me, my focus is to help my children connect with God and make that connection a normal thing.

My boys also spend time in Bible study several times a week.  My oldest son is studying science and the Bible this year and I’m working one on one with my younger son making sure he fully understands the finished work of Christ.  My Kindergartner is spending time learning the different Bible stories.  I read to her at bedtime and for school she is continuing to draw pictures about the life of Jesus.  All three of my kids go to sleep listening to the Word.  I purchased a couple different dramatized audio Bibles.  Right now my daughter is listening to the New Testamentand my boys are listening to the Old Testament.

Our time in the morning gives us a gentle start to the school day.  I cherish that time with my kids.

  1. Super post (but then again, all of your posts are 🙂 )!! Can you post the specific bible studies you are doing as well as links to the bible audio dramatizations your children are listening to? Inquiring minds want to know! 🙂

    1. Thanks Trace! If you click on the Old Testament and New Testament words in the post it links to the audio CDs my kids are using now. Also, if you click on “science and the Bible” in the post it will take you to another post where I list the resources I’m using with my oldest child. I’m also using a book called The War is Over Study Guide by Andrew Wommack. I’m using it with my 4th grader even though it wasn’t made for kids. I read it aloud and discuss as we go.

  2. What an awesome blog! I’m going to have to park here for a few hours. I was thinking about this yesterday. Starting every day with prayer and meditation. My 4 1/2 year old tends to be very sensitive and can get anxious. With another baby coming I thought I’d help her relax every morning. Love this!
