Prehistory unit study

This unit study was designed for my Kindergartener.  I took the prehistory unit study that I did with my older kids about 4 years ago and adapted it for her.  She hasn’t really had much interest or exposure to dinosaurs so I made sure to cover them in our study.  My son lived in breathed dinosaurs when he was younger and did a dinosaur unit study in Kindergarten so I skipped that in our previous unit study.  I’ve also changed some things that didn’t work well and put in some better videos.

  1. What do you do about the evolution stuff in the dinosaur videos? Millions of years etc? Maybe we’ll do the Creationist Unit study first… my son is pretty sensitive and I’ve noticed he’s been bothered by the bombardment of evolutionist propaganda in videos.

  2. Hi, I love how you laid this information out. HOw did you go about finding, viewing (preview) and planning out the videos? That’s a very lengthy process. I’m curious how you did it because I get so overwhelmed by the many choices out there. I like a simple formula of books + videos + one project and then a topic is done (add experiments for science) but I just so overwhelmed and plan too much etc.

    1. Thanks Ira. This study is mostly recycled from several years ago and only took about an hour or two to put together. It probably took several hours back when I first put it together too. I usually first choose the books. I like to look at Amazon or Rainbow Resource and then check them out of my library if they have them. For this study I purchased the books so I chose them by viewing inside the book. I then choose videos to go along with the topic and some kind of activity. I didn’t prewatch these videos, but I did have my daughter watch one for a few minutes to see if it would be too scary. My oldest son used to love shows like Walking with Dinosaurs when he was young so I didn’t feel like I needed to prewatch these. If you go here: http://eclectic-homeschool.blogspot.ca/search/label/prehistory you can see some of the prehistory things we did years ago. I tend to spend more time on a topic than most, but it works well for us that way.
