Art Appreciation Resources

artappreciation

Several years ago I did some art appreciation activities with my older two kids.  I dug up some of my old plans and revised them for my youngest child.  She will go through this study in 2nd grade.  Basically for each artist we will learn a little about the artist’s life and then look at many of the artist’s works.  I’ve also added in some kind of DVD or video for each artist that will help us learn more about the artist and his or her work.  At the end of each artist study there is an art activity that incorporates some of the techniques of the artist.

These resources are designed to introduce my art-loving child to many artists and the different ways they used their imaginations to create art.  Depending on her interest we may extend the study or branch off on tangents.

Some of the books will be ones that I will read aloud, but many of them will mostly be used for their pictures.  I don’t know how long this study will take.  We will just start at the top and make our way down the list until it is done.  If it isn’t finished in one school year, we will bump it to the next one.
