Is there such a thing? Apparently, some think so. Some people seem to think that if you are someone desiring to be a stay at home mom or even a homeschooling mom that going to college would be a waste. I’ve encountered this idea many times and don’t understand it. College isn’t about getting a degree to get a job – at least it shouldn’t be. It should be about expanding one’s horizons, learning, and critical thinking. I have a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Arts degree and am now a stay at home mom as well as a homeschooling mom. I can’t count the times I have been asked when I am going back to my career. Why is that idea so prevalent in our society? Our society seems to present this idea that a stay at home mom is not living up to her potential.
I have not regretted my education for a moment. I would be a totally different person if my education ended at high school. I use my college education every day. It may not have any impact on how I fold clothes or wash dishes, but it greatly impacts on how I raise and teach my children.
Being a stay at home mom and a homeschooling mom is my career now. There is no paycheck, but the benefits exceed what I could ever be paid. My education has proved to be invaluable in this endeavor. Being a stay at home mom is not an easy choice in our western world which pressures families into needing two incomes. But it is so worth it!
AMEN AND AMEN!!! I am delighted with how you educate your children. They amaze me with their wide rang of knowledge on so many areas. I am proud to be your Mom and their Nana.
