My older son had his first “recital” recently. He began playing the guitar using Alfred’s Kid’s Guitar Course about two months ago. He picked a song that he had practiced for awhile and played it in front of several members of his family. This first guitar course is a DVD program that takes a child through learning how to tune a guitar, learning several chords and playing simple songs. He eventually wants to work his way up to playing an electric guitar.
He typically has one “lesson” per week where I make sure his guitar is in tune and I watch him follow along with the DVD instructor making sure he is doing what the teacher says. I then require him to practice at least 5 minutes before school every day. Not much, I know, but he is progressing with only 5 minutes practice per day.
