This week we have concluded our little study of Monet and his art with a little art project of our own. They were instructed to use short, quick brush strokes and use different colors next to each other. They ended up using different shades of the same color to give a little depth to their Mario pictures. Yes, Mario. They all painted pictures of Mario – even the little girl.
Any resemblance to Princess Peach there?
Today we also had a little art time with Drawing Power with Michael Moodoo. It is basically drawing instruction from a guy wearing silly clothes. The DVD they watched today taught them how to draw castles, wizards, and dragons. When art is on the menu the little girl comes running. She can’t have Princess Peach without a castle.
Our new schedule has given us a little more time to devote to art and music. In addition to learn-to-draw DVDs we are looking at a couple artists from history and examining their works with a little project at the end. This year we will also look at Michaelangelo, Dali, and we will probably be able to get to Cassatt too.
The art lessons looks like fun. Mario is perfect…art is what you love, right? My daughter would have painted anime characters.
Sounds like you have some great artists lined up this semester. Mary Cassatt is great.
Joyfully,
