In November we went to our local zoo searching for Artiodactyla animals. We are incorporating several trips to the zoo this school year as part of our mammal classification study. Artiodactyla animals are animals with an even number of toes such as giraffes, cows, goats, hippos, pigs, camels, and deer. We distinguished between those that do and do not chew their cud. Because we live in a northern climate some animals were not out and about, but we did find several on our list. In a couple weeks we will head to the zoo to look for animals in the Carnivora order. We should have snow by then so it will be interesting to see the animals in that environment.
