Yesterday I was cleaning off the table in preparation for dinner when I asked my Kindergartener to put away his drawing if he wanted to keep it. He decided he didn’t and gave it to me to throw out. When I looked at it I was surprised. At the bottom of his drawing about Roblox he wrote words from one of the songs we sing along to in our praise and worship time in school. “Woo hoo hoo, woo hoo hoo, the Lord is amazing! When you’re blind He can make you see!”
If you are a reader of this blog you may have noticed that I consider the education of my children to be very important. More than that I believe the spiritual development of my children is crucial.
It is said that music is the window to the soul. It struck me that this song had embedded itself into my son’s spirit. While he might have a general understanding of what he was writing, the simple fact that the words are in him is important. Perhaps those words will bubble up from his spirit when he is having a hard day. Perhaps he will sing out those words on a day where he is thankful and in awe of God.
Time spend in praise and worship on a school day can take 20-30 minutes. We each pick a song from a list of about 70 songs. It make take some time, but it is worth it.
That is so neat! And, my sister & I went to a Christian school for 2 years when we were in elementary school. I still remember, and sing, the songs we sang there. Music really does get inside of you!
You are blessed!
