  1. My top three are:
Thomas Jefferson at 23 (that’s a new one on me, I’m going to have look that one up)
Unschooling at 19 (I definitely like the idea of doing it before 5 or 7 years old and then maybe continuing with it in a bit more structured manner after that, so that yes, we read, do math, study history, etc. every day, but they choose at least some of the reading we’re doing, some of the history we study and at least half their “electives”.)
Tied with Charlotte Mason at 19 (I like her daily nature walks and the idea of using living books)

So I guess I want to be an eclectic homeschooler, too! Doesn’t surprise me too much, of what I’d read already, I couldn’t find any philosophy (Charlotte Mason, Unschooling, classical, traditional, unit studies, Montessori, Waldorf are the ones I’ve read about) I liked enough to want to dive in wholeheartedly.

  2. I gave my top four since I had a tie.

Score for Unit Studies Education: 25
    Score for Montessori Education: 18

    Score for Classical Education: 18
Score for Charlotte Mason Education: 23

  3. I really enjoyed this quiz!
    My top 3 were
    Classical – 25
    Waldorf – 5
    Charlotte Mason – 2
These were my only positive numbers…I have a negative number for everything else :-)…My lowest number is Unschooling – I have negative 12 for that…

  4. Wow – i came out as Charlotte Mason. That is so NOT me. I think these questions are pretty leading. I think literature is highly important, and guide my children to do a LOT of reading. However, that is not their main education. This is overall a very interesting survey, but the questions need to be worded differently for better overall accuracy in answers.

    1. These questions were the ones for Charlotte Mason. If you agreed with these items quite a bit, the quiz would give a high score for Charlotte Mason.

Short lessons with focused attention are better than big chunks of time.

  7. Looks eclectic, but I thought the top would be would be Charlotte Mason. I didn’t know about Thomas Jefferson, and the name turned me off, so that’s a surprise, also.

Highest score was Montessori Education 14
Next highest was Charlotte Mason 8
Third was a tie between Waldorf, Unit Studies and Unschooling. all 6

    We are very eclectic.

  11. Hi! Too 3: unit studies, Charlotte Mason, Montessori. And way negative score on “traditional.” That’s what is most interesting to me about the comments here! There was such a wide range of top scores among the commenters I read; but it seemed the traditional (classroom-like) was dead last for so many. Isn’t it great we can all find our family’s fit? And so interesting, that for many of us, it looks so very UNlike a typical school setting! Hmm…(:

  12. Hmmmm it seems my summer reading pile of unschooling books must have rubbed off a little!
    Score for Traditional Education: -18
    Score for Montessori Education: 15
    Score for Unschooling: 23
Score for Charlotte Mason Education: 14

  13. Unit Studies 21
    Charlotte Mason 16
    Unschooling 10
    Montessori 9
Traditional Education -3 (funny being that I spent 9 years as an educator)
    Thomas Jefferson Education -6

I love unit studies. This is pretty accurate, though I really have no idea what Thomas Jefferson Education is.

  14. My top 3 are:
    Score for Unschooling: 15
Score for Charlotte Mason Education: 11
    Score for Montessori Education: 9

Interesting because I go for a more traditional route.

  17. Obviously I have a strong showing for unit studies:

Score for Unit Studies Education: 15
    Score for Montessori Education: 9
Score for Thomas Jefferson Education: 9
Score for Charlotte Mason Education: 9

  18. Waldorf : 8

    Unit Studies : 9
    Montessori : 23
    Thomas Jefferson : 19
    Unschooling: 8
    Classical : 5
    Charlotte Mason : 13

  19. Score for Waldorf Education: 6

    Score for Unschooling: 23
    Score for Classical Education: 12
Score for Charlotte Mason Education: 15

  20. Hi, thanks for this survey. Very enlightening. For future reference, when building a survey, you may want to lookup Double-barreled questions. You should avoid asking about 2 things in the same question. For example, I believe logic is very important but not Latin. There is no way for me to answer that question accurately.

    Thanks again for the survey!

  21. Score for Waldorf Education: 12
    Score for Traditional Education: -9
Score for Unit Studies Education: 11
    Score for Montessori Education: 17
Score for Thomas Jefferson Education: 6
    Score for Unschooling: 18
    Score for Classical Education: 11
Score for Charlotte Mason Education: 18

Very interesting and I’d say accurate.

  22. Score for Waldorf Education: 10
    Score for Traditional Education: -8
Score for Unit Studies Education: 14

Score for Thomas Jefferson Education: 13
    Score for Unschooling: 23
    Score for Classical Education: 12
Score for Charlotte Mason Education: 21

I definitely agree with Montessori and Unschooling- not really sure what Charlotte Mason consists of (now I’ll have to look) the traditional score isn’t surprising, but I’m kind of surprised Waldorf wasn’t higher since that’s the curriculum type we actually use

  23. Score for Unit Studies Education: 21
    Score for Montessori Education: 21
    Score for Classical Education: 17

  24. My Top 3:
    Charlotte Mason
    Waldorf
    Montessori

With Montessori being our highest. Actually a little surprised as I wasn’t expecting Montessori to be our highest!

  25. Score for Waldorf Education: 5
    Score for Traditional Education: -17
Score for Unit Studies Education: 18
    Score for Montessori Education: 23
Score for Thomas Jefferson Education: 7
    Score for Unschooling: 18
    Score for Classical Education: 0
Score for Charlotte Mason Education: 17

Unit Studies and Unschooling are the two I knew I would be. Charlotte Mason is one I’ve read a little about but not much so I’ll have to look into that more. The one that is surprising is Montessori with a score of 23. I’ve heard of it but know nothing about it. Thank you for the quiz, it was good food for thought!

  26. My top three were very similar to yours! 🙂
    Montessori: 21
    Unschooling: 18
Unit Studies & Charlotte Mason: 17
Thank you for this quiz! What a great resource!
    Happy schooling!
    Nikki

  27. Well, My scores were rather surprising. I tend to think of myself as a Classical Charlotte Mason sort… but my Charlotte Mason score was relatively low.

    Classical: 23
    Thomas Jefferson: 14
    Montessori: 16

I really don’t know what Thomas Jefferson means.. I’ll have to look that up. And I find it surprising that I score high in Montessori. I do not have any Montessori materials and have no idea how to teach in that method. I apply some Charlotte Mason techniques, and actually really agree with alot of her pedagogy, but alas, I was a traditionally schooled child and have a VERY hard time conforming in practice to those ideals. Overall, when people ask me, I say I am an Eclectic homeschooler. 🙂 Thanks for the quiz. I am curious about Thomas Jefferson now… off to research…

  28. Score for Montessori Education: 14
    Score for Classical Education: 14
Score for Charlotte Mason Education: 19

  29. My top three were, of course Charlotte Mason, and then following that were Montessori and Unit Study! I do LOVE unschooling, but didn’t get a very high score in that one surprisingly!

  30. Charlotte Mason 21
    Classical 17
    Montessori 12
    Unschooling 8
    TJ 7
    Waldorf 5
    Unit 3
    Traditional -13
