Yup, this was pretty accurate, though I’ve never seen “Unit Studies” set apart as it’s own philosophy. I consider that more of a type of teaching tool than an independent educational philosophy. I love our Heart of Dakota program!!

This is pretty accurate. I consider our home ed eclectic…but my philosophies lean strongly towards Unschooling…I have not heard of Charlotte Mason education. We do a lot of unit studies with lapbooking. It is funny, my score for traditional ed were the complete opposite, -21.

And this is why I call myself eclectic. I am so middle of the road. Surprised though that classical is so low for me in comparison to traditional. I do not consider myself traditional. Also, given a different day, I would score differently, I bet. I’ll have to come back.

I really love Charlotte Mason and her thoughts, philisophies and methods concerning education so I was really happy to have scored so high in her departnent! I’m not that familiar with the Montessori method so that score was interesting. The unschooling score really shocked me but perhaps I have a lot to learn about myself as a homeschool mom! Lol God told me He was gonna use the whole homeschool experience to change me so there’s no telling what is store for me as I journey on!

Here are my top three. These don’t surprise me. I would definitely say I’m eclectic. There have been times when I’ve used some traditional school methods with my oldest because that is what he needed, but I scored -19 for that because it’s not my philosophy. He has graduated. These three pretty much reflect my homeschool now.

We love living books. The feedback from my children after we’ve read a great book together or after they’ve read one independently is wonderful. I think their strengths are something I have to work with to make their education fit. I want my children to remember their childhood and education as one that empowered and encouraged them to find their own learning style and use it.
I love this post so much! Unschooling, Charlotte Mason, and Montessori were my top three also! I’m very curious about what you pull from each of these styles, and how you reconcile some differences (short lessons vs. long uniterrupted child-led learning time for instance) Have you written any posts about that?

I tend to view my philosophy as unschooled with an emphasis on living books, so I can see how the Charlotte Mason approach showed up there, but I used some Charlotte Mason materials when I was being homeschooled that I strongly disliked, and I’ve visited Montessori schools and wasn’t a fan at all. Though maybe it was the teachers who rubbed me the wrong way and not the method itself?
